Prerequisites to be Considered for an Elder or Deacon Position at BBF

Purpose: We believe that God desires for His church to operate in a way uniquely led by Him as the literal Head of His body. In order to see this carried out, the Lord has given us some criteria or prerequisites that must be met for members to fill an Elder or Deacon position.

Our Vision: The Lord has given us a desire to lean on and profoundly depend upon Him in ways that seem unusual or even, at times, unnecessary to many believers. This includes laying down our past experiences, expertise, or other preconceived notions about how church is to be done, and depending solely on Him for guidance and direction. We believe that as we crucify self and elevate God, He will show us things we would have never seen before, trusting in ourselves.   If we are to do life and do church well, we believe a strong sense of humility and an openness, which allows God great freedom in our lives, is required. As we give God access to all of us, we believe He will do magnificent works that only He can do.   It is our heart to lead and teach in this fashion at Boquete Bible Fellowship. We also believe God desires for us to teach, train, and equip new leaders whom He has raised up, to function in this way and lead others to also function in this capacity as well. This follows the model of disciples making disciples with respect to leadership at BBF.

Prerequisites: To assist in our discernment process with Elders and Deacons, below are some prerequisites that must be met for members to fill an Elder or Deacon position at Boquete Bible Fellowship:

  • The Biblical Qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3, and Titus 1
  • An active member for at least six months
  • Understands and commits to adhere to our Statement of Faith and our Constitution
  • Possesses a solid knowledge of the Word of God
  • Skillful in communicating with God or uniquely open to learning how
  • Committed to share with our leaders written dialogues with the Lord, especially as it relates to decision-discerning
  • Willingness to commit to BBF Leadership Covenant
  • Understands our approach to Outreach, Missions and Benevolence
  • Has read Chapter 4 of Come Talk With Me – The Biblical Basis for Relational Communication with God
  • Demonstrable love for God and His people
  • Involved in Ministry

We believe these prerequisites will give great clarity to any potential leader on how our church operates, and Christ’s place in it. With a solid, foundational understanding of all these things, Christ will be magnified, and unity within the body will be maximized.
